I'm a huge fan of saving money, especially when it comes to beauty. What's better than saving money AND perfecting your favourite makeup techniques or skincare routine? I can't think of much...
Here are my favourite beauty hacks:
1. Use a spoon to perfect your eye makeup
Have you ever seen someone perfect their eye makeup and instantly wondered, how does she do that? While they may have spent hard cash buying a miracle wand, you can do it for free. All you have to do is grab a teaspoon from your kitchen, result!
TOP TIP: Hold the stem of a spoon against the outer corner of your eye, draw the straight line as the first step for your cat-eye. Then, flip the spoon so it's hugging your eyelid, and use the rounded outer edge to create a perfectly curved winged effect.
2. Use that same spoon to avoid mascara marks on your upper eye
This is definitely a life-saver for those who are clumsy with their mascara wands (like me). Hold your teaspoon so it's almost hugging your eyelid and then hold your mascara wand over and start applying your mascara like normal. As you sweep the wand against your lashes and back of the spoon, watch as the coat drips on the back of the spoon rather than your poor eyelid.
3. Get the right shade of foundation for free
If you purchase a foundation that's too dark, don't throw it away. Instead, add a bit of moisturiser to your mix to help lighten it up. This one works for me every time. If you're pale like me, you'll know it's hard to get a decent matching foundation, but this is a great way to avoid disappointment if you've spent money on foundation.
4. If you want longer lashes without extensions, add baby powder to your lash routine
Apply baby powder to your lashes with a cotton bud and let it sit. Then, apply your mascara and BOOM, instant fuller, longer lashes. What a great tip!
5. Make your lipstick last all day with translucent powder
To make your lipstick last all day, hold a tissue over your lips and dust them with translucent powder, no more sneaking away to the bathroom to apply a second layer post-lunch!
6. Achieve a smudgy eyeliner look with your current eyeliner
If you want a smudgy eyeliner look but only have a regular kohl pencil, heat up your pencil over a stove burner for a few seconds to soften it, this isn't one for those who are likely to make mistakes.
7. Use an old toothbrush to clean out your clogged up hairdryer
Did you know your hair dryer collects hairs at the back and can clog up the filter? YUCK! It's true, and there are often little annoying hairs that you somehow can just never get to, how annoying. Using an old toothbrush is perfect for getting those hard to reach hairs and pulling them out, meaning you can get back to drying your hair safe in the knowledge your hair dryer is clean.
8. Apply hairspray with an old toothbrush
Tame annoying flyaways with a little bit of hairspray on an old toothbrush. Spray directly onto the toothbrush and brush lightly to perfect your dream hairstyle. Ideally, not the same one you're using to clean out groggy hairs...
9. Extending the life of lip gloss
If you have a lip gloss stick that is running low then you can make this go just a little bit further. Simply pop the lip gloss into a mug of warm water with the end pointing upwards. The hotter the water the better, just make sure it doesn’t damage the case of the lip gloss. This will melt any little bits of lip-gloss around the outside of the container so that there is more left to use.
10. Keep your old mascara wands for eyebrows
Give your old mascara wands a wash and use them to brush and straighten out your eyebrows, it will save you buying the next big shiny (and expensive) eyebrow kit.
11. Save up your beauty points with a Boots Advantage Card

12. Spray your favourite perfume in your hair
We're all taught to apply fragrance to pulse points - wrists, neck, etc. and some people even apply theirs to the back of their knees. However, have you ever tried applying it to your hairbrush? Mix a few drops in with your shampoo or spray it directly onto your brush and it will last longer.
13. Use a spoon to reduce puffy eyes
The spoon is just a wonder product! This is a classic free beauty hack, if your eyes are a bit tired or feel puffy, stick a cold spoon under there to reduce swelling and help you feel fresh, perfect.
14. Fix foundation stains with a little bit of shaving cream
If you take off your shirt and accidentally smudge your makeup on the collar, just wipe a dollop of shaving cream on the spot to pretreat it before tossing it in the wash. JOB DONE!
So there are my top tips, I hope you've learned something valuable, ladies. Now, fancy winning a £50 Boots Gift Card? It's simple:
Good luck everyone!
