Get happy this January - 5 tips

After the dizzy excitement of Christmas 2012 and the jubilation of the New Year, a cold / wet / snowy January can leave us feeling low. Have no fear, we have some tips to get you back to your old happy self.

Get creative
Have you ever wanted to learn how to knit a hat, or learn how to make a cheesecake? It will be fun to learn something new and keep the cost down - the internet is full of step-by-step tutorials and you can gain new skills.

Visit happy friends - or have them visit you
When you surround yourself with positive, like-minded people you will be come happier. Get some friends together, it doesn't have to be expensive - why not host a bring-your-own-dish party and everyone can have fun eating delicious food and playing games.

Set yourself goals
Grab a notebook and jot down some of your short and long-term goals. This can be anything, from finally cleaning your garage to learning how to drive. When you move closer to completing your goals, the happier you become.

If you're stressed try and take 5 minutes to sit somewhere quietly and breathe through your nose and out through your mouth. Think back to a time when you were happy and you'll soon find yourself calming down.

Treat yourself
It doesn't have to be a car or a holiday, treat yourself to something small - a glossy magazine, an iced bun, chocolates or a new purse.
