Swimming in a giant see-through tank in Covent Garden...yeah no worries...
Regular freebie hunters will know we recently featured Nivea’s Dare to Dip Facebook campaign where you could claim some free skincare samples. Some of you may also remember there was an option to attend their big Dare to Dip event in London.
Well, my friend Lucy (a fellow freebie aficionado) was one of two hundred and fifty women invited to take part!
As her nominated plus-one, we were contacted by a very lovely PR lady who explained what our exclusive invite entailed. In a nutshell, we've been asked to swim for a minimum of ten minutes in a giant see-through perspex tank in the middle of Covent Garden this Saturday. Like you do.
We mulled it over, and like all scary decisions we concluded ‘the hell with it’ and agreed. After putting the phone down, reality hit and we've been in a constant state of panic ever since. Wearing a swimsuit at the gym swimming pool is terrifying enough but paddling about in a see-through tank in the middle of one of the busiest tourist spots in Europe? What on earth were we thinking.
For obvious reasons we've both been laying off the BKs and frantically squatting, running and crunching for dear life. I've also been fretting about what to wear. Polka dot bandeau bikini? Tankini?? Speedo one piece, nose clip and a swim cap???
Body issues and swimwear dilemmas aside, there's also make up to consider. Both of us are rarely seen without a full face on so we've considered keeping our heads up, swimming serenely with minimal splash, and not getting our faces or hair wet. But who are we kidding? It's a giant tank of water, getting wet is inevitable and trying in vain would be ridiculous. So, in the spirit of being young(-ish) and carefree we've decided to throw caution to the wind, have a stiff pre-swim drink, thank the lord for waterproof mascara and bomb (or possibly swan dive?) into the tank.
We figure in times like this, we should forget about trying to look good, let loose and just do it. Which I’m pretty sure is what Nivea is hoping to inspire - their Dare to Dip campaign is all about having fun and feeling confident. It's one of those once-in-a-lifetime moments and it'll be nice to say we were part of it. Plus, it should be a really fun day, there's going to be a backstage area where Kiss FM DJs will be playing and loads of Nivea freebies, including a free towel!
Wish me luck. I’ll let you know how it went next week!
