The Kite Runner is the first novel by Afghan-American author Khaled Hosseini. It was published in 2003 and proved extremely popular, becoming the New York Times bestseller in March 2005.
It was even adapted into a film of the same name, which premiered in 2007. It tells the story of Amir, a young boy from the Wazir Akbar Khan district of Kabul. Amir and his friend Hassan fly kites as a way to escape the horrific reality the two boys are living in.
