Burmese Days was George Orwell's first ever novel, published in 1934. The novel takes place during the waning years of the British Empire, in Burma. Orwell spent years in Burma as a police officer, so there are arguably some autobiographical elements hidden in the story.

The plot is peppered with themes of Imperialism, Racism and Identity, and it provides an interesting critique of the British Raj.
