The British Library is the Uk's national library and is the largest national library in the world by the number of items catalogued. If you love books this is definitely the place to visit!

It's estimated that the British Library is home to 150 - 200 million items from all corners of the globe, including 14 million books, 920,000 journal and newspaper titles, 58 million patents, 3 million sound recordings and much more.

Entrance to The British Library is free and is worth a trip purely to see the intricate design and many artefacts on show. The opening times are:

  • Monday – Thursday: 09.30 – 20.00
  • Friday: 09.30  – 18.00
  • Saturday: 09.30 – 17.00
  • Sunday: 11.00 – 17.00

There are places to eat, drink and shop at The British Library, so it's a great place to spend a day - at zero cost!
