Want to put together a mulled wine kit? Look no further...
- 25cm square butter muslin square
- 85g demerara sugar
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 70cl bottle red wine
- 8-12 cloves
- 1 orange
- Place the muslin on a flat surface and pour the sugar, ginger and nutmeg into the centre. Tie the pouch with a fine string and attach it to the neck of the wine bottle, then attach the cinnamon stick to the bottle with a little raffia.
- Stick all the cloves into the orange and pack into a cardboard box lined with shredded paper or raffia, along wit the wine.
- Cut out a cardboard label and write these instructions on it:
"Tip the contents of the muslin bag into a pan with the wine, orange, cinnamon stick and 300ml of water. Simmer for 5 minutes and then serve."
You can use whatever wine you want to - a shiraz works well. The orange will keep for a week, or 6 weeks without so leave the orange out if you're making it ahead.
