Sarehole Mill Gardens | Hall Green, Birmingham

For those of you who are intrigued by following the Tolkien trail in Birmingham, make sure you stop by the gardens of Sarehole Mill!

Entry to Sarehole Mill itself will set you back £6 per adult, but entry to their lovely gardens and their tearooms is completely free.

Tolkien played at this mill when he was a child, and it's easy to draw parallels in his literature with the stunning natural beauty to be found along the Tolkien Trail.

Other places worth visiting include the Shire Country Park, Moseley Bog, Perrott's Folly, Edgbaston Waterworks Tower and The Plough and Harrow pub.

Bear in mind that the gardens are no longer free when there's a special event on at the mill, so be sure to check the website before your visit if you're heading here for a free day out.
