One of the most frequent questions we are asked at Beauty Bible is to give readers a ‘prescription’ for skincare, day and night. So we asked this truly lovely brand, whose products have greatly impressed us, to advise a skincare regime for three different skin types.
We ask testers for Beauty Bible Awards to describe their skin type and these are the three that come up most often: dry, sensitive, mature; combination, sensitive; normal. Before we set out Herbal Essentials recommendations for the most appropriate regimes, we wanted to tell you a bit about the fascinating story of the brand and its founder.
Pakistan-born Aly Rahimtoola, who was educated in London and America, is a businessman with a passion for rediscovering ancient wellbeing and cultural rituals. Early this century, on one of his regular trips to his home region, he heard about the skin-cherishing benefits of Himalayan Spring Water. It’s rich in essential minerals that help to nourish, hydrate, balance and repair your skin, particularly magnesium, calcium and potassium. Research shows that Himalayan Spring Water helps promote skin cell turnover, stimulating healthy new skin cells so your complexion looks supple, smooth and even.
Through his work in pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, Aly became intrigued about the possibility of harnessing this unique ingredient, together with indigenous botanicals, in a skincare range, formulated on the principles of Ayurvedic medicine (the traditional medicine of India, now much respected in the West).
A French chemist made Aly’s concept of a range of effective modern skincare based on ancient beauty wisdom come true. In 2008, Herbal Essentials was launched.
There are many excellent things we can tell you about the skincare, not least that it’s very good value. The textures are lovely, the products smell delicious, they are gentle and balancing and they really do work. The products are at least 90% natural origin; it is not tested on animals directly or by any third party. All packaging is recyclable, with bottles made of glass polymer. Many products are vegan. We are very happily using it ourselves.
