This site is basically a portal but with a lot of content. Everyday companies give away their products (usually new on the market) for free and freebie sites like this one link to the specific pages on their website where you can get the free stuff.

Simply put, it is just part of their advertising campaign. Instead of putting their advertising budget into one area, companies often give away a free product to entice you to buy it again in the future. Big companies like Gilette or L'Oreal for example usually have a few hundred thousand freebies to give away as part of their campaign.

To be honest, I've been getting freebies for a few years now and I don't receive more junk mail by post than normal. I do get a lot of e-mails though, sometimes to get a freebie you need to sign up to that site's mailing list. I would advise setting up an e-mail address just for freebies so you know you never need to worry about checking that e-mail box and it can just sit there collecting junk. A hotmail address would be perfect.

If you're worried about other companies passing on your details when you sign up for freebies make sure you read their privacy statement. There will usually be tick boxes on forms which you can tick to stop your details being passed on.
